Arsenal were drawn to play Manchester City in the FA Cup Semi-Finals by Alan Shearer during the FA Cup draws held yesterday. The Gunners equalled Manchester United’s record of 30 FA Cup Semi-final appearances after a 2-1 win over Sheffield United. A penalty from Pepe and a late winner from Dani Ceballos were enough to see the team through to the next round where they are set to face Manchester City who went past Newcastle United in a dominant game.
The draw expectedly drew a lot of mixed conversations from Arsenal fans as the Gunners recent record against Manchester City in the Premier League have been abysmal. Arsenal has failed to win any of their last seven encounters against The Citizens conceding twenty goals whilst managing to score just two. However, the clubs’ record against ManCity in the FA Cup makes for better reading with the most recent encounter producing a semi-final win in 2017.
Arsenal fans can draw some hope from this table as Mikel Arteta prepares his side for the 18th July encounter. Manchester City are already League Cup winners this season and are still in the running for the Champions League. Given, the abysmal defence of their Premier League title this season, it is expected that they would be wholeheartedly interested in clinching all cups available to them.
