Media reports have linked currently injured Southampton right-back, Cedric Soares with Arsenal as the club seeks a back up to Hector Bellerin. The Portuguese defender Soares, currently recovering from a knee problem, is out of contract in the summer. Many Arsenal fans have found the move strange given recent performances of Ainsley Maitland-Niles in that position under new boss Mikel Arteta.
In preparation for his departure from the club Southampton have acquired Walker-Peters from Tottenham with the Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirming that his arrival means Cedric is allowed to leave
Asked if the arrival of Walker-Peters from Tottenham meant Soares was now likely to leave he stated
‘From our side, yes. The fact is that he’s out of contract in the summer, Sometimes things change quickly in football.
‘Then for the club and for him, it is the best that we say “OK, if you want to leave, you have only two or three more months (of) contract, then it’s better to go’ and we are concentrating on developing other players.’
Arsenal seems to be seeking for low budget deals to fill squad positions as Mikel Arteta builds his squad to challenge next season. The recent acquisition on loan from Flamengo, Pablo Marin also indicates the club is changing its approach to the transfer market.
