Arsenal vs Chelsea Preview :Time to break the record

I hate Chelsea, I really do hate them, f**king hate them and this is me trying to censor myself else I can go into a tirade of abuses targeted at them and that is what this whole preview would be about. One of my worst days watching football was the day they won the Champions League, Lord knows I cursed so much my wife told me I was cursing in my sleep. That’s why I will forever hate Bayern, can’t forgive them for losing that game.

You see, I can link Chelsea to everything that is going wrong with Football today, from money killing the game to rampant sacking of managers to the desire for quick success and so on. They might not be the cause but we can’t deny that they had a lot to do with it. You see what the Cardiff Manager is going through now? They caused it! Everyone who buys a football club now wants to be the next Roman. This might end up being a terrible preview surely because I am blinded by hate but in the spirit of Christmas you would have to forgive me.

Let me attempt to do a preview

Chelsea visits our ground having won four of their last five league games scoring 14 and conceding 8. They seem to be raking up the points but watching them you would see most of those wins could easily have been draws or loses. Mourinho known for his penchant for setting up his teams to defend very well seems to have let that lose on his return to the bridge due largely do that fact that he has a lot more flair players in his team.  Chelsea’s strength right now lies in the feet of Eden Hazard, he seems not be hampered by the second season bug Santi Cazorla seems to be suffering from. Quick feet, sharp movement on both feet and quick thinking has seen Hazard carry Chelsea in recent games. Chelsea’s threat lies in the quality they have in midfield Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Ramires and Schurrle are all threats. We failed to control the middle of the pitch against City and we suffered dearly for it. That can’t happen again.

Arsenal need to win!! Simple, however in the grand scheme of things a draw might not really be a bad result. Chelsea are a good team and they have one of the best squads in the league and the gap quality wise between us is as huge as it used to be. The quality we have in our side is good enough to take 3 points from this game and we should, it’s time we send a real statement and break this record Mourinho has over Wenger having never lost to him.

We have Wilshere and Koscienly out for this game so Captain Vermaelen makes a return to the starting lineup. Remember last season when Per was dropped for the game against Chelsea and we lost 1-2 and Vermaelen was suspect for both goals from Torres. That is not the kind of performance we would be expecting from him. Going into the game against City we had the best defence in the league and BFG and KOS have proven to be an excellent partnership, if Thomas thinks he should be considered more often then he has his chance to prove it now.

Another player who has all to prove is Giroud, his early season form has been good but he seems to be one of those suffering from playing too many games and he has admitted to being a little burnt out. Giroud welcomed the idea of signing another striker during the transfer window and with another window opening the manager really has to go and get a quality addition to the side. Giroud on the other hand if he wants to be our top striker really needs to regain his early season form. Loads have been written about what he brings to the squad aside from goals, link-up play and all but strikers are remembered by goals and especially goals against big sides on big days. Ask Drogba!!

Two goals against City and we can say Theo is coming back to form, we seem to forget he was our highest goal scorer last year and considering we didn’t sign any other striker to be without your highest goal scorer from last term and still be where we are is some achievement in itself. Hazard loves to operate from the left so Sagna would have his work cut for him and Theo would have a job to do helping him out.

Their midfield like ours is our strength and we need to win the battles there and win it early. Ozil must do more to impose himself on the game. The ‘Flamteta’ combo in midfield doesn’t seem to be working, my choice to start would be Flamini and Arteta to come in to keep the shape when we are leading and looking to close the game down. Should be a great game Monday night and we could be 2 points ahead going into Christmas or worst case end up in 4th place either ways it’s not  the end of the world but I’ll prefer we go back to where we belong, Top of the League . #COYG

Prediction: Arsenal 2- 1 Chelsea
