Arteta: We must win every game

by Koolkola

Mikel Arteta says the players will not relent in winning their three remaining games despite the low chances of qualifying for Europe.

Sunday’s 3-1 win over West Bromwich Albion saw us move to ninth, but we have to finish seventh to make it to the maiden edition of the Europa Conference League.

We will play against Thomas Tuchel’s high-flying Chelsea next, but the boss insists that the boys have to fight to the end.

“We have a huge responsibility to win every game that we play when we represent this football club,” he said.

“And as well, if anybody can question anything, our level, our ability, whatever it is, they can. But our attitude, that’s a non-negotiable one.

“Right up to the end, we have to try to win our matches and see what happens.”

The last time we finished above Spuds was five years ago, with that also being a driving factor.

“That’s another motive,” said Arteta. “We know that’s very important as well. But we can control our results and at the moment, we cannot control there’s. We have to do it in our matches.”

After heavy rotation in the match against West Brom, the team might also look heavily different against Chelsea. David Luiz, Pablo Mari and Granit Xhaka all missed out through injuries, while ESR also limped off during the West Brom match.

“Let’s see how they recover,” said Arteta. “We’ve lost so many players in recent weeks, so many big players, it’s had a huge effect on the team. It would be great because we have a very difficult game against them.”
