Arsenal fans have been divided on how important David Luiz is to our backline. While some feels he is currently the most important center back we have, others feel he needs to be dropped due to his erratic nature at times.
However, one thing we can all agree on is that we are all happy with our 8 million purchase at the moment. He stepped up to grab all three points for Arsenal against Bournemouth as his first goal for the club made the difference.
Speaking to the press after the match, the 32 year old defender spoke about the feeling of scoring his first goal for the club, how the team had to be focused and being unbeaten in the last five premier league games.
On his first goal, he said: “It’s an amazing feeling. I’m so happy to be here and so happy to score my first goal and help us to win.
On if the team deserved to win, “Yes, I think so. We could have scored more in the first half, but we controlled the game. The second half was more of a typical Premier League match. Bournemouth have amazing players, so the second half was more difficult. They created some chances, we created some chances and it’s always like that.
“When you have the opportunities to kill the match, you have to try to kill the match. If not, all the teams have the quality to come back. In the second half, they were trying to come back into the game but we were strong enough to keep the clean sheet and win the game.
“When it’s 1-0, if you don’t concede, you win the game. I think it was more about that. Our style is to play with the ball, but sometimes it’s good to understand if you have to win 1-0. Players like Ceballos, like Matteo, they were fighting like holding midfielders trying to help us. You see Auba pressing three defenders and I think that’s the spirit of the team. These kind of games give us a lot of things for the future.
“I think we are trying to improve everything in every game, every week. Also, we’ve had some games in the cup, in the Europa League, where we’ve changed the team [but the results] have been amazing. That’s what Arsenal means today – we have a lot of players in the squad with quality, so everybody can play. Everybody is trying to help the team.
Arsenal have been unbeaten in the last five premier leagues and the Brazilian defender thinks it’s down to improvement.
The team sit third on the table with 15 points from 8 games. After the international break, a visit to Bramall Lane to play premier league newboys Sheffield United is next on the card.
