Emery – Southampton are better away from home

We already know Unai Emery pays a lot of attention to opponents and tries to adapt that game plans to suit them.

In his presser, he pointed out that although Southampton are struggling but they play better away from home. The last time the  Saints won a premier league match was in September, with a 9-0 loss at home to Leicester being one of the losses.

Arsenal have also picked up only 2 points from the last 12, last winning a premier league match in April, with a 2-0 loss to Leicester at King Power being the latest.

“Every team is a very difficult team in the Premier League,” said Emery.

“I think they also need the points because they are now not in the best moment for them, but they are playing, I think, better away than in the matches at home.

“They are very competitive also, away. They lost 2-1 at the last moment against Manchester City, they won in Sheffield and also, they lost in the last moment against Tottenham.

“I think they are also going to very, very motivated to achieve that three points against us, but I think also we need to impose, to work, to show our game plan and our intensity against them in the 90 minutes on Saturday.”

Based on results from away games, Southampton would be in 8th place on 7 points, despite having lost four of their last five matches. Arsenal would lie 13th on 5 points. This goes to show that Emery has a point but our home form should also count.

It’s not going to be an easy match considering our form, as both teams will see it as a way to bounce back.
