Joe Willock happy to get a start

by Koolkola

We recorded a second win in as many Europa League matches, defeating Dundalk 3-0 at the Emirates.

A host of fringe players started, with the likes of Cedric, Nelson and Kolasinac all in the starting xi. Our new goalkeeper, Runnarson also started in goal.

Joe Willock also got a start, returning to the xi and putting up a man of the match display. He ended the match with one goal and one assist.

Speaking to the press after the game, he expressed his delight at getting a start, and hopes he gets a lot more.

On being handed a start…

For me, I’m so grateful to play for this team To start from the beginning makes me happy and it’s a proud moment for my family. I thought we did well today and I’m just happy I can contribute with a goal.

On what Arteta has asked him to work on…

To be honest, he just told me to keep working hard in training and when I get the opportunity, I have to take it. There’s a lot of competition and we’re here to fight. I said to him, I want to fight for my position and hopefully I’ll get more opportunities like today where I can show what I can do.

On the feeling in the dressing room…

We’re all happy to get the win after the loss at the weekend, I thought today we played well. In Europe, it’s never easy, you know. Every team is a struggle, we had to stick to our guns and I think we all did that today.

On how he sees his game developing…

I love to score goals, I love to create, I love to work hard for the team. That’s what I focus on in training and I do a bit extra on finishing. I’m trying to work on little things I love to do, I’m trying to bring that to the pitch. I showed that today and I want to show it more.
