Chris Wheatley of Football.London has revealed that Shkodran Mustafi turned down a contract extension offer from the club. The intention of the defender is to leave Arsenal on a free come next summer.
He was among those penned down for sale under former boss Unai Emery. However, he couldn’t find a suitable offer any opted to stay.
When Unai Emery was sacked and Arteta took over, Mustafi found a new life. He became a regular partner of David Luiz in the heart of the defense. However, injury halted his run.
Rejecting a new deal would have protected his value and made the club hold on for more cash.
As it stands, the German can talk to new clubs in January ahead of a summer move.
Do you think the club should do everything to keep the defender?
