Transfer deadline day saw some activities at the club. Although no incoming, we had three major outgoings.
Young midfielder Joe Willock joined Steve Brucevs Newcastle on loan until the end of the season. Joe Willock has seen limited minutes this season due to the array of talents and options that we have in the midfield area.
Although he had performed well in the Europa league, scoring three and recording three assists in five appearances.
Speaking on the loan move, technical director Edu said:
“Joe is a talented young player and an important member of our first-team squad. This can be seen in the number of appearances he has made for us in recent seasons.
“At this stage of his career, we have decided together with Joe, that it will benefit his development greatly to enjoy a loan period playing regular first-team football. We thank our counterparts at Newcastle United for their collaboration and we wish Joe all the best with his loan move.”
In another loan move, Ainsley Maitland-Niles joined Sam Allardyce’s West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season.
The young English man reportedly wanted a move in a bid to keep his place in the English national team ahead of the Euros.
After a scintillating FA cup final display, he had fallen out of favor with limited game time and he has never hidden his displeasure at being played as a fullback.
Speaking on the loan move, Edu said:
“We wish Ainsley the best of luck for his time with West Bromwich Albion. He deserves the opportunity to play consistently, which is what he needs for his club and international career ambitions and we fully support him with that.”
Shkodran Mustafi has left the club to join Sead Kolasinac at Schalke O4 in Germany.
Bought for £35M in 2016. The defender had 151 appearances and 9 goals for the club.
Best of luck to everyone of them.
