What manner of Arsenal is this?

What manner of Arsenal is this?

We score some wonderful goals

We win when we don’t play well

When you are faced with a situation that basically defies explanation, the best course of action might be to burst into incredulous song and wonder why. So it appears to be in the curious case of this Arsenal team and season (at least so far).

I mean what sort of team loses its first league game at home to a mid table team and go on a winning streak running into double figures? What team adds only only one player (an excellent player) to its ranks and transcends from being also rans to genuine league challengers in the space of a summer? What kind of team loses at home in the Champions League and it doesn’t result in an overreaction from the fans and manager alike but rather commendation from pundits for played a good game and being unlucky to lose.

And there was the Crystal Palace game. Playing against a team from the same but residing at the opposite end of the table, who have just lost their manager, one would have expected some sort of reaction from the home team. But no, while the south London team huffed and puffed, the team from across the Thames simply went about their game in an uncharacteristic calm and collected way.

The first half wasn’t much to write about so I won’t. Even when Arsenal took the lead and then had the goalscorer/captain sent off, that didn’t change the tenor of the match. Special mention must go to Wojciech Szcznesy and Bacary Sagna who had perhaps their best games this season; Woj pullng off a couple of spectacular saves while the scores while 1-0 and Bac putting in a very good shift at right back.

But thats all previous. Next up is the Capital One clash with Chelsea on Tuesday evening. And already Jose ‘Moaner’ Mourinho is already complaining about they having one less day to prepare for the game having played against the Manchester City on Sunday. Classic Jose. He even goes further to threaten to field youth team players for the game, like Chelsea have a real academy system and don’t have a gadzillion midfielders to choose from. But we know it’s all mind games from the interpreter. Quick one about Jose’s second coming struggles; I guess that’s why they say you should never go back to a former lover, it is usually never as good as the first time

Well we know Arsene will continue in his tried and tested tradition of fielding younger first teamers in league cup matches. Expect to see the likes of Miyachi, Gnarby, Hayden and the like to get extended game time or start even. Our long lost captain, (Thomas Vermalaen, remember him?) should start and skipper the side.

Quite what Arsenal team will turn out on the Emirates pitch remains to be seen and bears for much closer inspection. Much closer inspection I say (wink, wink!). But one thing is sure, it should make for an entertaining spectacle; matches against Chelsea and/or Mourinho usually are.

Come on you Gunners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
